To the people who draw our attention to the sales of puppies and kittens on Facebook or other internet sites: Yes, we know. Yes, we agree with you. Yes, we are as frustrated as you are……because there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. We have tried, believe me. No one wants to know. The way these animals are homed is both immoral and illegal, but Facebook will not remove the adverts and the authorities are unable/unwilling to act. All we can do is try to educate people about the misery that is caused by their actions; more unwanted animals (yes, they are unwanted, otherwise they would not be given away or sold) and more dogs and cats will end up at the SPA.
If you know anyone who has an unwanted litter, please try and talk to them about the consequences of their actions; most importantly, try and get them to sterilise their animals so that this is the last time it happens. Invite them to visit the SPA so they can see the damage they are causing. Many many of their animals will end up either there or dead, so the least they should do is find out what Fate has in store.
Oh, and please do not adopt or buy from these people. It just encourages them to do it again. Don’t forget that all our animals leave our care vaccinated, sterilised / castrated and microchipped (which is a legal requirement), all for far less than you would pay to have this done to your own animal. So really a free animal is a false economy, unless you want an unvaccinated, unidentified dog or cat, prone to illness and getting lost. Not to mention the fact that more unsterilised/castrated animals mean that the cycle of misery will never ever end.

I like most of the dogs at the refuge but every now and again a dog arrives that really tugs at your heart strings!
This lovely 5 year old boy arrived after being found in a local village, Now its true that he is a hunt breed,,,but wherever he has been he has not lived the typical hunt dog lifestyle.
He is very friendly, is confident and has a really soft loving nature. He leans into you for a cuddle and puts his head up for a kiss !
Hes not a puller and trots along beside you on his walks.
When he is in the exercise parks he is quite magnificent running round and round.
Any lovers of hunt type breeds will tell you that the make fantastic pets. They are scent hounds so follow their noses but a long line would keep him safe and you sane whilst training recall.
He could go to the UK and would tested for Mediterranean disease, passported, castrated and delivered to your door!
Like all of our dogs Dumbo would travel legally under TRACES with a DEFRA type 2 transporter.
